Bring in, Ring in, Sing in the Spring
Spring is sometimes a long time coming. As snow melts and winter slowly blows away, the earth begins its unfolding of new life and hopeful greening. While we can still snowshoe through the soft white and sip the clear, wintry air, we dream the sparkle of spring, that wind-chapped-cheek time, where ‘baby fiddleheads sleep/like so may questions deep’ and sun comes ‘smiling in/as longer days of light begin’.
A poetic celebration of the season, Sing in the Spring! invites readers into a rural family home and the natural world that surrounds them. Tiny details and close emerging from hibernation are a source of wonder, seeds hold secrets of sunflowers, and mudilicious puddles await!
Working with Sheree Fitch has been an exciting opportunity, a celebration really. Her verse is the spark that cracks open the seed. My work is to create, magnify, magicify, whimsy-fy her words with emotion, colour and texture. In this is the whirl of worldly possibility. I ask of the verse, what will you be?
There is, of course, a reason why the BUY BOOK HERE button links you to Woozles, Canada’s oldest children’s bookstore located in Halifax. It was there I worked with Barb Robson who showed me her beautiful quilts, who, despite my very wonky, misaligned, simple, rudimentary patchwork blocks, encouraged me.
The book is also available through Sheree Fitch’s Mabel Murples Bookshop and Dreamery, a summer seasonal bookshop (July-Sept), visit her site at https://www.mabelmurplesworld.ca/
